Cooking with gas.-Momma Tucker

Yesterday while talking to a new friend about Bossa Nova he reflected on the fact that the form exists because of women. Furthermore the culture of Brazil is built around women. At this point in the documentary we have not been able to interview any women on the project, which is an enormous missing piece.  Most of the music is written by men reflecting on the women in their lives who give them inspiration and keep them alive. The heart of this post goes out to the women, my mom, my sister, my best friend/blatina sister, friends and lovers. Thank you I love you!

Now to the post- Cooking with Gas.

This was always a term my mom would say when we were really busy and being productive. Well my friends, we are cooking with gas! Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Howard Sergio Tucker (long lost cousin?) who is a Philadelphian Poet and writer. He performs with Bossa Nova artist Juliano Telles, providing pros over Juliano's unique Bossa style. You will see Juliano and more of their work in the coming months.

Sergio is writing an article about the project for Jornal Dos Imigrantes, which is a Brazilian newspaper serving over 20,000 Brazilians here in the tri-state area. It can also be found online in English, Spanish and Portugese, here.

We had an indepth chat about the influence of Bossa on us as individuals and as artists. Exploring the medium of Bossa Nova through our individual stories, we shared stories of love, loss, and the fight for culture in our country. I was very impressed with Sergio and the paper, as it was truly an open dialogue with the intention to really delve deeply into who we are, and what this whole project is about. It was a very earnest honest approach that I have not been afforded in the past by other journalists.

If the day could not get any better, the film editing (I am working on) for the Saturday event is getting closer and closer to completion. Getting even better, Rob called with amazing news on the project. which I will save for another time to share. And if the day could not get any better,  To end this better to best day, I took my mother to go see a Bossa Nova set in west Philly, with the group, Minas. The Orlando Haddad and Patricia King team run a Bossa record label here in the states called Blue Azul. It was wonderful to share this with my mother. She is like any other mother I am sure. Exited for me and the project, but I know when she sits at the table she still sees a big eyed toddler with cake on his face. Last night I think she got a glimpse of the adult I have become, we spent hours listening to Bossa and talking about the plans for the film. It was amazing to spend that time with her, I feel I am truly ready to make this journey now.

As always thanks for supporting!
